Mi Nombre Es Kristi.

I am HUGE on names. Specifically, the spelling of names. I think it stems somewhere from the deep, dark days of elementary school as a Kristi with a 'K' and an 'I 'and all my dummy friends and teachers getting it wrong. Oh, and the fact that even my own Grandmother writes "Kristy" on my birthday cards. I even get the occasional "Krissy," which just sends me right into a tailspin. True story.

A name is who you are. It's part of your identity, your brand, your essence. And it's also just in good taste to spell someone's name correctly when writing correspondence to them. Martha agrees. So does Prudence.

What's more, some companies make it easier than ever to NOT get it wrong. For example, the corporate email address structure at my casa de employment is first.last@company.com. It's freaking spelled out right there in black and white Arial pt. 12.

So why oh mothereffing why do I get at LEAST three emails a day that begin, "Hi, Kristy..."

It grates on my face.

To take it a step further, most people are repeat offenders. I make it a fairly obvious point when I reply to sign my response "Sincerely, KRISTI." But still, the y's keep coming.

In other news, we now have two clippers on the floor. TWO! We have the repeat offender (who was previously outed) and now someone we shall dub "the new guy." I think they operate in tandem just to try and kill me. Offender #1 operates on Monday and Thursday and TNG is usually a Friday afternoon clipper. It's my own personal hell.

Spelling names correctly and keeping your personal grooming habits confined to your home life. I don't ask for much.

i agree. How hard is it to look over an email or a letter and make sure you spell someone's name correct. It's not THAT hard.

Well said and as one who gets "Jenny" or "Jenni" when my name is JENNIFER or JENN, drives me up the freaking wall! (Thank you forrest gump for ruining the 'jenny' name!)

in other news, i understand the nail clipping. we have a girl who does the same thing ... and now with the cold season approaching, we have two men on either side of the office competing for who can hack up the most flegm and make it SOUND as though the crap is literally flying out of their mouths ... seriously gagariffic! MANNERS MUCH?!?!

OMG I couldn't agree more. I can't tell you how many people spell my name "Aliyah" with an extra "h." I know LIKE THE SINGER, yes, I get it, but that's not how I spell my name as you can clearly see by looking at my email address! So annoying.

So agree with you on this one! For some reason "Christina" is nearly impossible for 2 people in my dept - they always call me "ChristINE" seriously?! I allow Chris, Christy, Christina... never Chrissy and never Christine. Tip on how to break them of the habit though: correct them in front of a bigwig when they introduce you! LOL That worked for one of the repeat offenders for about a month!

OMG. I was totally out in public last week when I heard someone clipping their nails. I turned to my friends and was like, WTF? Nail clipping. In public? And my friends thought I was nuts-o because I heard the sound over the crowd. Um.. hello, it's like nails on chalkboard, ladies. I'd die if someone did it at work. Die.

Oh and props to you on the calling out via email. I'm too passive-aggressive to call someone out. I usually just get Laura instead of Lori. And it's always said with some crappy east coast accent that sounds like Lar- ee or Lar- uh.

I relate to this, natch. AND I find that more people spell my first name wrong now that I have a cinchy last name. In related news, my friend's new fake fiance spelled my name correctly and he's never seen it except for on Facebook. He's my new favorite fake fiance. In my option, someone who pays attention to the details in life is in line to be a keeper!

My first, middle, AND last name get spelled wrong on a consistent basis. Or people want to argue with me about whether or not my "real" name is Abigail - love that one.
