Meet Steve.

I cordially invite you to meet Steve the Squirrel. He comes by every Sunday to have a nice snack of nuts and seeds on our back steps. Sometimes, if we're feeling gourmet, he even gets almonds! He's become quite friendly over the last few months, coming really close to eating right out of our hands. I'm legit so scared he's going to somehow get in the house and just make himself at home one of these days.

Steve's our pal and we think he's pretty cool. He's also the closest thing Alex is going to have to a pet for the next 5 years, so there's that.

And please excuse my snowman doormat. We're getting our patio poured back there in a few weeks (!!!)and I've just been too lazy to put a spring/summer one out, knowing I'll just have to bring it inside in 2 shakes.

Sledding fun!

This weekend we had a little winter fun with Grammi, Poppi and Uncle Kyle.

In related news, I was almost beheaded by a fence, Mom has a bruise on her hip that looks like the state of Texas, and Uncle Kyle had to visit the chiropractor yesterday. We're a mess.

And also? Poppi is a sex machine in his Carharts and subtle orange hat. The safety glasses clearly complete the look.

See also: I'm officially out of the will.

A proper yard.

As we turned the corner onto our street yesterday, we were greeted by a lovely green surprise.

Sod. AKA how the VeeDubs grow a yard. And Alex, the smartest kid ever, said, "Look, Mom! Somebody made our grass!"

Every day I'm shovelin'...

This weekend we went "up north" to stay with Grammi and Poppi. Alex took the opportunity to be super helpful and assist Poppi with shoveling the snow. It should be noted that my Dad does not, in fact, shovel this entire driveway. Snowblowers abound!

They went for a sled ride...

And made snow angels for Grammi...

Alas, I think this marks the last snow of the season, but I'm not complaining! That just means we're one step closer to breaking ground on the new house. In related news, our basement is starting to look like an episode of furniture hoarders. Which is fiiiiiine.

Like I said.

I've tried telling Joey a bazillion times that I will not ever, under any circumstances, go camping. He tries to guilt me into warming to the idea, saying really stupid things like, "But Alex needs these life experiences!" or "It's a rite of passage for any young man!"

Joey's idea of "camping" is the real McCoy. Tents for sleeping. Holes in the ground for the loo. Food over flames for consuming. Showering in open bodies of water. You picking up what I'm throwing down?

I've been "real" camping two times in my life. Both of which are experiences I would like to forget to ensure my therapy costs can remain affordable. My Mom is about as outdoorsy as Kris Jenner (although she strangely does love to kayak) and my Dad couldn't pitch a tent if it came with Yogi Bear himself as an instructor. (And no, that's not a euphemism. Sickos.) To say we're not the camping type of family is the understatement of the century. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

Our skills lie in other areas of life, like making reservations for dinner and ensuring the hotel we're staying in has a pool. These are the things that are the true test of a rugged woman. Alex and Joey can go camping all they want in life, as long as they don't expect me to tag along. Instead, you can find me at the nearest indoor facility with air conditioning and snacks.

In summary: I might consider camping if somone buys me this glass. And I was kidding about the therapy. Maybe.
